The MCRS Program Hosts its Third Annual Alumni Mixer

This spring, the Master of Conservation and Restoration Science (MCRS) program held its third annual Alumni Networking and Mixer, offering a space for current students, alumni, faculty, and staff to gather, connect, and celebrate the vibrant MCRS community. Set against the backdrop of the Duck Club in Irvine’s San Joaquin Marsh, the event created an atmosphere that was both welcoming and energizing. This annual event continues to spark conversations and build relationships across cohorts and career stages.

A highlight of this year’s mixer was the introduction of an interactive speed networking session, a new feature that brought a fresh and engaging format to alumni-student conversations. In this structured activity, pairs of MCRS alumni rotated between small groups of four current students, engaging in ten-minute rounds of Q&A and career discussion. This format gave students the opportunity to ask direct questions about career paths, challenges in the field, and advice for entering the conservation and restoration workforce.

The success of the mixer was made possible through the efforts of both first- and second-year students, who helped organize and facilitate the event. Their involvement underscored the MCRS program’s emphasis on collaboration, leadership, and professional development. As the program continues to grow, events like the alumni mixer serve as powerful reminders of the lasting community being built—one rooted in shared values, mentorship, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
